- When entering or editing a transaction, set the Matching Gift field to “yes”.
- You can then select the constituent that is going to match this gift by searching for them in the Matching Constituent field.
- If the constituent is not yet in DonorView, you may click the Constituent Add button next to the title "Matching Constituent."
- Enter the Matching Percentage that this other constituent will be matching. If they are going to donate the same amount, the percentage would be 100%. If they donate $2 for every $1 their employee contributes the percentage would be 200%. If they donate $0.50 for every $1, the percentage would be 50%.
- You can also add a Memo, for example a note when when you should expect to receive the matching gift.
- All the same fields as a typical contribution entry are available below the in kind item fields including the revenue categories, tributes, matches, soft credits, etc. Be sure to select the remaining fields as appropriate before proceeding to save the entry.
- At the top or bottom of the page, click Save to save the entry. Click Save And New to enter a new gift for this constituent or select Save And Acknowledge to print or send your thank you letter for the contribution.
Note that creating a matching gift and selecting a matching constituent does not create a pledge or commitment for that matching constituent. It is simply a note in the gift record.
Matching gifts can be seen on the Gifts Grid in the Fundraising Module with a check box under that column. You can also see the name of the Matching Constituent and the projected Matching %. You can also use the Quick Queries menu to select Matching from the Type options.
You could use this information to send summary reports listing all the contributions you have received from their employees, however in most cases the employee must complete a form and submit it to their employer to initiate the match.
